Descriptions for Adjusting Sensors of "Smack N Bash"

1. please confirm the connection is without any faults, the colors of connector and corresponding wire should be same. Especially, please do not reverse the red one and yellow one, otherwise the main board will be burnt. As the picture shown below, the colors of connectors on board are not same, but the main board will not be burnt if you follow the colors to connect.
XP-INPUT connects with the wire of reveiving signal on main board.
XP-X connects with the wire of receiving signal of X-axis on main board.
XP-Y connects with the wire of receiving signal of Y-axis on main board.
PCB-OUTPUT connects with the wire of receiving signal on sensor board.
PCB-X connects with the wire of receiving signal of X-axis of sensor.
PCB-Y connects with the wire of receiving signal of Y-axis of sensor.
INPUT connects with the buzz piezoelectricity chip.
OUTPUT connects with the wire of signal from buzz piezoelectricity chip to main board.

2. The buzz piezoelectricity chip is stuck on the tempered glass of CRT, so it will give out a signal when hit the glass and the main board will judge if the hitting is effective. The chip may come off after a long time adherence and then the game will not work. Therefore, it needs replacing the chip or sticking on again. Adjust the sensitivity of chip by twisting the R26 potentiometer on signal enlarging board. Twisting counterwisely can increase sensitivity. The limit for sensitivity is when you just slightly touch the glass, it will give out the same reaction as hitting. (if it still doesn’t work, you can cancel the limit of chip, that is, connect the “OUT” of OUTPUT port with “GND”)

3 . The X-axis sensor board is arranged from left to right. The first “OUTPUT” from left connects with signal enlarging board. The Y-axis sensor board is arranged from up to down. The first “OUTPUT” from top also connects with signal enlarging board. Both the first “OUTPUT” in X-axis and Y-axis receiving boards connect with “PCB-XY” in signal enlarging board. “OUTPUT” in receiving board connects with “PCB-OUTPUT” in signal enlarging board. Connect the “INPUT” and “OUTPUT” on the two boards.

4 . Adjusting Instruction:
First, please confirm the connection is without any faults. +5V and +12V voltage is proper (the most proper +5V voltage should be +5.1V.). The red LED light on main board will flash after powering on the game. If the main board starts properly, the green LED light will flash. You can see the TEST button(left) and SERVICE button(right) after opening the coin door. SERVICE button is for FREE-PLAY, also it has a DEGAUSS button and it is for CRT.
Press TEST button to enter into Test mode and press for several times to enter into sensor test, as the picture shown below:

This picture shows the menu for hitting. At this time, some items on X/Y-axis are changed.
(Note: the origin status for sensor is “0”, hitting status is “1”.)
The screen will display a red point where the hamme hits and the red point will move following the hammer’s movement. The corresponding sensor will become to “1” from “0”.
a If it displays “0” all the time with any hitting, that means the sensitivity of sensor is too high.
b If the original status displays “1”, there will be 2 causes, one is the corresponding sensor is faulty and another is the sensitivity of sensor is too low.
c If the original status displays “1” and “0” are flashing alternatively, that means the sensitivity of sensor is at the critical state. So please increase the sensitivity.
There are two “504” potentiometers on signal enlarging board, for separately adjust the sensitivity of X/Y-axis sensor. Counterclockwise is for increasing sensitivity. These two potentiometers are the enlarged part of IC LM324, the more the enlarging multiple is, the higher the sensitivity will be. (attach a document of LM324)

5 If the adjustment of “504” potentiometer doesn’t work, we only can change the voltage comparison parameters of LM324. The voltage comparison contains a up resistance and a down resistance. Increase the reference voltage by increase the resistivity of up resistance or decreasing the resistivity of down resistance in order to decrease the sensitivity of sensor. On the contrary, it will increase. As the picture shown below, the 4 resistances stated in black are divided into two columes, one is up resistance and another is down resistance. Those can separately adjust the voltage comparison parameters of X/Y-axis. “1K” is down resistance and “2K” is up resistance.
